Book Report: The Ownage of Tom Gamboa
This is easily one of the most underrated moment during the past 10 years of MLB. A shirtless son/father combo engage in a little male bonding on field in Chicago and promptly get obliterated by 50+ professional athletes. To his credit, Royals first base coach Tom Gamboa took the incident in stride, especially considering the media were quick to paint him "the victim" and condem MLB (and pro sports in general) for their lack of security. Perhaps but maybe there is a reason that attacks of this nature in pro sports, in public are pretty remote: they're insane and hard to pull off. These two Chicago fellas were clearly morons ("[Gamboa] had it coming," claimed the father post-attack) and most sane folks wouldn't even contemplate attacking a first base coach in such a matter. An umpire, maybe.
Anyway, decent feature up top about how Gamboa has battled these "demons" in the years since.
